How this works

Every day at 00:00 UTC three new rounds appear on the same theme. Easy names each puzzle's technique and shows answer lengths. Medium shows lengths but not techniques, and only rarely hides a second layer. Hard gives you nothing but flavour: the title and the shape of the data are the only clues, and some puzzles have more than one layer. Each round is a handful of feeder puzzles and one metapuzzle, and each feeder hides a single word.

The meta uses the feeder answers (and sometimes things you noticed along the way) to produce one final, on-theme word. Answers are checked against a hash, so the page itself doesn't contain them. Solutions for each round are published the day after.

Hints come in tiers, each saying more than the clue and the tier before it: a nudge, then a pointer to the trick, then the full method, then the first letter you should be getting. Hard only offers the nudge; Medium adds the pointer; Easy gives the method and the first letter. Using a hint on a puzzle is noted on your record, and on the leaderboard it adds a five-minute penalty (once per puzzle, however many tiers you open).

Grids, cryptograms, word searches and shredded sentences can be worked in the page: click, drag or type. Most encodings have small boxes under each item for jotting letters, and every puzzle has a notes pad. All of it is saved in this browser.
